Q&A
Why did you decide to study in Canada?
I’ve been drawn to Canada for a long time. I wanted to study abroad to improve my English and to have an amazing experience.
Why did you choose Trent University?
Trent University was the only university in the English part of Canada that I could choose. When I inquired about the university, the vibe pleased me. It is a very inclusive university surrounded by greenery, next to a big city (Toronto) to travel so that was perfect.
Did you have any expectations of Canada/Trent, and did they change upon arrival?
My principal expectation was to improve my English skills, in both comprehension and communication. I also wanted to discover another country, another culture and I wanted to travel a lot to discover North America. I was excited to surpass myself and live far from my family.
What advice would you give Trent students on why they should study abroad at your home university?
This is a unique opportunity that you have to do! It can only bring you positive things and teach you about life. Moreover, by being in France, you can travel over Europe easily. UCO in Angers is a really great university. This university offers many fields of study where you will find what you are looking for. The city of Angers is one of the best cities to live in France. Everything is close to each other, it is well served so you can go wherever you want. Moreover, everything is safe there. You can go shopping alone or hang out with friends during the night without problem.
What was your academic experience like?
There are many things to say about the difference between France and Canada.
About academics, in general you select a program of study and the courses are determined by the university, you don’t choose your own courses and planning. But maybe it’s different for exchange students that come to the university. Also, you don’t have to buy expensive textbooks like here, you can rent the book at the library for free.
- Do you live in residence or off-campus?
In France we don’t have accommodation on campus. You have to rent an apartment or a homestay room and it's cheaper. By the way, we also don’t have so many dining halls. French universities are so much smaller than Trent.
