Questions
- Why did you decide to travel abroad?
-
I decided to travel abroad because it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and gain independence while having new and exciting adventures. When I first heard of Trent’s study abroad program, I knew that it was something I had to take part in to make the most of my university experience.
- Why did you choose to study at Charles Sturt University? How did you learn about it?
-
As a conservation biology student, I chose to study in Australia as it’s one of the most biodiverse places in the world. I learned about Charles Sturt University from the long list of partnerships Trent has on their website. I decided to study at the Port Macquarie campus because it’s a cute coastal town with lots of beautiful beaches, a koala hospital, and is a great place to see whales and dolphins!
- What was your experience like? What are some of the differences & similarities with Trent?
-
The campus I studied at was much smaller compared to Trent. My vegetation management course had just 2 people in it! This allowed me to get the most out of my learning and have great relationships with the professors. Like Trent, Charles Sturt is also a environmentally focused campus. They are Australia’s first carbon neutral university – another aspect of what drew me to study here.
- What did you find was the most challenging while abroad?
-
I found that the most challenging and difficult thing about studying abroad is having to leave after making lifelong friendships and seeing how much there is to experience out in the world.
- In your opinion, what would you say are the benefits of studying abroad?
-
There are so many benefits of studying abroad. Getting on a plane, moving across the world, and navigating a new country on your own is amazing for your personal growth and a great way to build confidence. I have made connections with people from across the globe and have experienced things I have only ever dreamed of. Immersing yourself in a new country and community will be life-changing, it certainly was for me.
- What was one of your favourite memories from your time abroad?
-
One of my favourite memories from my time abroad was when a few friends and I went to watch our roommate surf at Lighthouse Beach during sunset and we happened to see 5 humpback whales travelling up the coast!
- If someone told you they were thinking about studying abroad but weren’t convinced they should, what would you tell them?
-
