Course Requirements: A Checklist
General B.A Degree
Students wishing to complete a General (three year) B.A. degree in Sociology are required to have a total of fifteen credits in their program. The following is a quick checklist of the basic requirements for a general degree.
B.A. Single-Major General Degree
15.0 credits including the following 6.0 credits:
- 2.5 SOCI credits consisting of SOCI 1001H, 1002H, 2110H, 2151H, and 3151H
- 0.5 credit from SOCI 3100H or 3111H
- 1.5 SOCI credits at the 3000 level or beyond in addition to the above
- 1.5 SOCI credits in addition to the above
• In addition to the program requirements listed above, students must satisfy the University degree requirements (see p. 15), including 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List
B.A. Joint-Major General Degree
15.0 credits including the following 5.0 credits:
- 2.5 SOCI credits consisting of SOCI 1001H,1002H, 2110H, 2151H, and 3151H
- 0.5 SOCI credit from SOCI 3100H or 3111H
- 0.5 SOCI credit at the 3000 level or beyond in addition to the above
- 1.5 SOCI credit in addition to the above

Honours B.A. Degree
Students wishing to complete a Honours (four year) B.A. degree in Sociology are required to have a total of fifteen credits in their program. The following is a quick checklist of the basic requirements for a honours degree.
B.A. Single-Major Honours Degree
20.0 credits including the following 10.0 credits:
- 3.0 SOCI credits consisting of SOCI 1001H, 1002H, 2110H, 2151H, 3151H, and 3160H
- 0.5 SOCI credit from SOCI 3100H or 3111H
- 2.0 SOCI credits at the 4000 level
- 2.5 SOCI credits at the 3000 level or beyond in addition to the above
- 2.0 SOCI credits in addition to the above
• In addition to the program requirements listed above, students must satisfy the University degree requirements (see p. 15), including 0.5 credit from the Approved Indigenous Course List
B.A. Joint-Major Honours Degree.
20.0 credits including the following 7.5 credits:
- 3.0 SOCI credits consisting of SOCI 1001H, 1002H, 2110H, 2151H, 3151H, and 3160H
- 0.5 SOCI credit from SOCI 3100H or 3111H
- 1.0 SOCI credit at the 4000 level
- 1.5 SOCI credits at the 3000 level or beyond in addition to the above
- 1.5 SOCI credits in addition to the above

The Minor in Sociology consists of the following 5.0 credits:
- 2.5 SOCI credits consisting of SOCI 1001H, 1002H, 2110H, 2151H, and 3151H
- 0.5 SOCI credit from SOCI 3100H or 3111H
- 1.0 SOCI credit at the 3000 level or beyond in addition to the above
- 1.0 SOCI credit in addition to the above
Students should note that the above requirements are valid only for the Sociology Department. For the University requirements, please see the University calendar. Joint-majors should also check the degree requirements for the other discipline involved. Students should also be aware that degree regulations valid at the time of entry to the University stand as graduating requirements.
