The Northern and Rural Innovation Cluster
The Northern and Rural Innovation Cluster
A partnership between Laurentian University, Lakehead University, Nipissing University, and Trent University - The Northern and Rural Innovation Cluster leverages the expertise of post-secondary institutions and industry partnerships for projects related to intellectual property and entrepreneurship, research data management and security, policy development, course/curriculum development, networking and joint symposia, and government relations, such as engaging with provincial and federal ministries and funding agencies.
Through funding provided by Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) the Cluster will focus on three key sectors
- Critical Minerals
- Electric Vehicles
- Cleantech
Aligning with Ontario’s Critical Minerals Strategy to link research and commercialization expertise at post-secondary institutions with industry and innovation ecosystem partners to accelerate the development and adoption of new technologies, the Cluster leverages the strengths of the partner universities and the educational and commercialization resources of IPON to:
- Drive economic development through research and innovation
- Improve intellectual property literacy
- Facilitate collaboration between academia and industry
- Create a map of research and development assets within the cluster
- Organize and deliver a culminating Industry-University Connection and Commercialization Event on March 7th, 2024 – a showcase featuring the collective academic and industry expertise in the critical mineral, electric vehicle, and cleantech spaces.
