Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Climate Change and Northern Ecosystems
Research interests: Ecology and evolution, environmental science, climate change
Professor Tanentzap is conducting research on how northern soils and freshwaters will respond to climate change, and what this means for people. His work will inform policy and management to better protect northern ecosystems and the benefits they deliver to people—particularly northern communities. By tacking large-scale associations between organic molecules and microorganisms and tracking how these connections will impact water, forests, and fish, he will provide important knowledge for management and identify opportunities for mitigating climate change.
“The Canada Research Chair position and funding will give me the opportunity to leverage the equipment and expertise at the Water Quality Centre to advance my research projects and help train the next generation of environmental leaders.”
Inspiring students
Prof. Tanentzap’s research program will engage undergraduate and graduate students, providing hands-on experience in developing practicable responses to climate change while deepening student understanding of the issue.
