The Canada research chairs (CRC) program is committed to excellence in research and research training. Trent University shares this commitment and boasts a significant number of highly engaged CRCs.
The CRC program seeks to:
- Strengthen research excellence in Canada
- Increase the country’s research capacity by attracting and retaining the best researchers
- Improve the training of highly qualified personnel through research
- Improve universities' capacity to generate and apply new knowledge
- Promote the best possible use of research resources through strategic institutional planning and collaboration among institutions and between sectors.

Research interests: Stream and lake ecology, global change, biogeochemistry
Dr. Whitney Lackenbauer
Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in the Study of the Canadian North
Research interests: Modern Canadian and circumpolar history; political studies; military history / war and society; and Indigenous-state relations in Canada
Dr. Dennis Murray
Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Integrative Wildlife Conservation
Research interests: Population dynamics and behavioural ecology, predation, parasitism and herbivory, conservation biology and wildlife management
Dr. Naomi Nichols

Dr. Anne Pasek

Research interests: The politics of infrastructure, critical making and research-creation processes, and feminist STS. She has published on topics ranging from geoengineering, knitting software, Moore’s Law, urban agriculture, and glitch aesthetics.

Research interests: Carbon sequestration and tailings management, natural analogues for carbon mineralization, and geobiological approaches to carbon management
