Rachel Pfeifer '11, B.A., History, Oshawa, Ontario
A captivating History curriculum, joint Museum Studies program with Fleming College and the opportunity to work in the campus library suited graduating student, Rachel Pfeifer to a tee which is why she chose Trent University Durham for post-secondary education.
Rachel’s interest in history comes from a curiosity about understanding how the past influences the future. “I enjoyed learning about different centuries and how people in the past lived before us,” explains Rachel.
Rachel believes that her History professors played a pivotal role in fostering her academic career at Trent. “I truly feel that your teacher has a huge impact on your education,” stated Rachel. “With great professors such as Dr. Robert Wright and Dr. Jennine Hurl-Eamon I stayed engaged in class and felt their passion, which was contagious and drove me to love History even more.”
Rachel savoured the academic and social experiences of her four years at Trent, “I enjoyed working in the library, playing soccer after class for fun, going on leadership retreats, having stimulating seminar discussions and making lifelong friends!”
Rachel’s confidence flourished in and out of the classroom as she took an active role in campus life. Along with many extra-curricular activities, she was part of the Leadership Program at the Durham campus, and participated in several leadership retreats. She also attended the Ontario University Fair to appeal to potential incoming students. Rachel feels these activities have made her a stronger individual.
Rachel relished the opportunity to work at the Trent University Durham Campus Library. She said, “I really found myself and realized I could truly enjoy working in a library for the rest of my life.” She is now ready for a new chapter in her academic life. This May she will be going to Seneca College to take their accelerated Library Information and Technician program.
She hopes to work in a specialty library, such as a law library, or for a law firm. “I believe that law is important to keep society running smoothly and I hope to be a part of something big one day,” said Rachel. “For example, to be part of a new law that impacts people in a positive way.”
While reflecting on her life at Trent, Rachel looks to the future. She reveals, “Trent has been so good to me. I have been able to make lots of connections and am thankful to Trent for being the foundation to my life.”
