Sara Ostrowska

Sara Ostrowska ’10, B.A., Honours, Philosophy and Political Studies, Hamilton, ON

» Video Transcript

Ever since Sara was introduced to philosophy in eighth grade, she knew she had to learn more. Now as a Trent graduate with Honours in Philosophy and Political Studies, she is considering many possibilities on the road ahead. “Philosophy is used in so many aspects of our lives every day, what else could be more useful?” Sara reflects.

With additional interests in ethics, Sara is contemplating a career in not-for-profit organizations, politics, or journalism. A future as a professor of Philosophy is also on the table. She feels Trent’s Department of Philosophy stood out from other universities because of its young, dynamic professors and diverse course selection. Sara also believes that Trent provides a balanced approach in such a male-dominated field. She says, “It was very encouraging and inspiring for me to work with so many brilliant female professors. Overall, I think the close relationships with professors are very valuable.”

In recognition of her hard work, Sara received the Helen E. McNaughton Prize, which honours an outstanding student entering fourth-year Philosophy. She also maintained her University Entrance Scholarship throughout her four years at Trent. Sara feels the Trent campus is thriving with enriching activities and student clubs. She also appreciates the great arts culture in downtown Peterborough.

Sara is a proud advocate of the Trent learning experience. To future students, Sara advises: “Go to Trent. I've learned so much and the small class sizes have contributed greatly to that. I've also noticed that there is quite an interdisciplinary approach to education here. All of my courses have reinforced and built upon each other or connected in some way.”
