Sarah Gallen got hooked on psychology in her first year at Trent University Oshawa. Her studies revealed how our brains determine everything from our behaviour and language to what makes us different, changing her understanding of human relationships and her perception of the world around her. Most importantly, her time at Trent taught her a great deal about herself.
As a Trent Oshawa PenPal, peer mentor and member of the Leadership Program, she helped many others. She also served as vice president of Campus Life for Trent University Oshawa (TOSA) and assisted the Marketing and Communications Office. Sarah is proud of her efforts. “Volunteering at school was one of the best choices I’ve made because it helped me meet lots of new people, create meaningful connections, and experience personal growth,” said Sarah. “All of these opportunities at Trent helped me learn new skills, develop as a leader, get great experience, and improve my academic performance. Getting involved was the best decision I made.”
Sarah claims the sense of community is one of the best things about studying at Trent Oshawa. “The cooperative nature of the Trent Oshawa community helps to foster a sense of belonging to all types of students,” said Sarah, who studied as both a full-time and part-time student. She values her professors who were readily available and went above and beyond to help their students.
Sarah plans to travel and hopes to apply her skills and experience to many different environments such as working in marketing for a post-secondary institution or assisting individuals with mental health issues. She is optimistic about the road ahead. “My Trent degree has taught me many things inside and outside the classroom,” said Sarah. “I hope to use that knowledge to flourish in the future.”
