2014 Graduate Profiles

Sarah Buttle

Brittney Forester ’10, B.Sc. Honours, Psychology, Oshawa, ON

Brittney Forester’s education in Psychology at Trent University Oshawa solidified her dream to become a teacher, and also unveiled a new interest in child and adolescent research. For Brittney, the Psychology faculty at Trent were instrumental in helping her to develop as an educational professional. “The professors and staff of Trent University Oshawa are the staples of our campus,” said Brittney. “Each faculty member has unique knowledge and experiences to share, but their absolute specialty is fostering drive in our students and evoking critical thought.” In turn, Brittney’s professors believe she “exemplifies the smart, hard-working, compassionate, community-spirited student that makes Trent great.”

Brittney’s extensive participation in extracurricular activities, both on campus and in the community, equipped her with vital skills that will support her in future employment. She served as vice president of Campus Life for the Trent Oshawa Student Association (TOSA), a student representative on the 2012/2013 Board of Directors, and as a senior co-ordinator for the Pen Pal Program, which assists elementary students with literacy skills. “Trent has certainly provided me with great academic knowledge -- however, it has also taught me much more about who I am and who I hope to be,” Brittney said.

One of her most valued Trent experiences was working with Dr. Nancie Im-Bolter as an academic mentor and through the Pen Pal Program.  “After working with Dr. Im-Bolter I felt more equipped and better prepared for my endeavors,” Brittney said. “The experience of working as an in-class facilitator provided me with the most practical knowledge to utilize moving forward.”

Before beginning her Bachelor of Education degree in the fall, Brittney will put her educational skills to the test as a Summer Program Director, organizing camps for children in Durham this summer.  In the future she would like to teach students with exceptionalities and ultimately plans to become an administrator. Brittney also hopes to continue to enrich her academic career at Trent by pursuing her Master’s degree in Psychology.
