Distinguished Research Award

Established in 1986, the Distinguished Research Award is given annually to a member of the Trent University faculty in recognition of outstanding achievement in research and scholarship.

Dr. Stephen KatzDr. Stephen Katz

Sociology professor Dr. Stephen Katz is a leader in the field of gerontology.  His numerous books and articles have expanded the horizon of aging studies, providing resources for gerontologists to examine the critical linkages between the experience of aging, social processes and cultural power structures.

Eminent Service Award

Established in 1978, the Eminent Service Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the life of Trent University above and beyond excellence in carrying out their employment or volunteer responsibilities. It is normally awarded at the culmination of service to Trent. The award is presented on behalf of the Board of Governors, acting upon the recommendation of the Senate.

Jalynn BennettJalynn Bennett

Jalynn Bennett’s
exemplary service to Trent University spans over 20 years. She joined the Board of Governors in 1987 (one of only two women on the Board at that time) and, shortly thereafter, agreed to serve as a vice-chair of the very successful For Tomorrow fundraising campaign and later as special projects chair for the Beyond our Walls fundraising campaign.

Shirley RolufsShirley Rolufs

Shirley Rolufs retired from Trent in June 2008 after 29 years of service. Ms. Rolufs dedicated her professional life to the advancement of the library and the University and was an unwavering supporter of intellectual and social life on campus.

Joyce SuttonJoyce Sutton

Joyce Sutton was the assistant registrar of Financial Aid when she retired from Trent after 30 years of service in 2008. She was a dedicated employee who always looked to find the best financial solutions for her students.

 

Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching

Established in 1976, the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching is Trent’s most distinguished teaching honour. The award is presented annually to a faculty or staff member who displays exemplary teaching, as well as exemplary concern for students. This is the 32nd year that the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching will be conferred.

Dr. Emilia AngelovaMolly Blyth

Professor Molly Blyth is a contract course instructor affiliated with a number of departments, including Canadian Studies, Cultural Studies, English Literature and Indigenous Studies. Prof. Blyth is also a doctoral candidate in the joint Trent/Carleton Ph.D. in Canadian Studies program and holds an M.A. in English from York University. She is recognized for her teaching, mentoring and support of students across the University.
