Biography
Ann MacLeod practiced nursing in a variety of hospital and community-based settings in urban and rural areas in Canada, New Zealand, and the U.S. After working in pediatrics in hospitals and home care, in Northeastern Ontario her practice focused on public health promotion, community development and primary care research. Since relocating to Peterborough in 2000, she has taught clinical and theoretical courses focusing on care of the older adult, community health, and primary care in the Trent/Fleming School of Nursing since its inception. Her research focuses on qualitative community-based approaches to study the intersection between health professionals, the volunteer sector and family in promoting health of older adults. When possible, arts-based approaches are used with participants. Current projects focus on social supports for community dwelling older adults and interventions to facilitate transitioning from hospital to home. She has sat on and been a founding member of many community boards of non-profit organizations in Ontario with the common thread being those that address health equity.
