Bookstore to officially open Oct. 1The official opening of the new bookstore on the main campus will be a weekend event, coinciding with the Head of the Trent Regatta when alumni and their families converge at Trent, on the weekend of Oct. 1. The Trent University Bookstore is now open at its new location at the main Symons Campus in renovated space below the Bata Library-Champlain College podium. The bookstore incorporates the merchandise previously available at the Campus Store and downtown store. The celebration will be kicked off by a ribbon cutting on Friday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m., with invited guests Mayor Sylvia Sutherland, MPP Gary Stewart and MP Peter Adams. All faculty, staff and students are also welcome to attend. A program of readings is planned Oct. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m., with former Trent writer-in-residence Andrew Pyper whose latest novel is Lost Girls, followed by Sean Kane from Cultural Studies, whose book, Virtual Freedom, was short listed for the Leacock Prize for humour. Kevin Callan will give a brief presentation with slides on canoeing in Ontario, and read from his book called Further up the Creek. Poetry readings and music are planned for Oct. 3. A costumed character will entertain children and raffle prizes will be awarded.
