Author, Author!

Literary Puzzles and Mysteries is the theme of this year's "Author, Author!" lecture series to be held in the Peterborough Public Library.

The lecture series, supported by the Barbara Rooke Trust established to honour a respected former colleague and English Department Chair, was first held last year and an estimated audience of more than 1,000 attended the program of 10 speakers on the theme of Biography. This year's series will be held Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

The series begins Oct. 14 with James Reaney who will discuss "Scapegoats Who Fought Back: The Donnellys." "In Pursuit of Walter Scott," is the topic to be addressed by Jane Millgate and Sharon Ragaz on Nov. 4. Nov. 18 Eric Wright and Howard Engel will consider "Criminal Briefs." The fall series winds up with Michael Sidnell discussing "Almosting it...: Enigma Variations in Joyce's Ulysses."

Jan. 13 Frank Augustyn, and James Neufeld and Veronica Hollinger of Trent, will consider "The Invisible Text: Transmitting Dance;" Jan. 27, Zailig Pollock and Mark Finnan "The Stratford Mystery: The Bard Laid Bare;" Feb. 10, Michael Peterman, "Unearthing James McCarroll: Ontario's Lost Writer;" Feb. 17, Dennis Duffy, "What He Saw Is what We Get: Arthur Goss's Photos, Michael Ondaatje's In The Skin of a Lion, and the Re-imagining of Toronto."

March 2 Richard Landon discusses "Literary Forgeries and Other Mysteries," and March 16, Gordon Johnston reveals "The Truth About Everything: Discovering Margaret Avison."
