Research Ethics Committee

Please note that ALL research conducted under the auspices of Trent University (by faculty, staff or students), whether funded or unfunded, that involves human subjects requires approval in advance from a duly constituted university committee. The next deadline to submit applications to the Research Ethics Committee is Friday November 13.

National Council on Ethics in Human Research (NCEHR) Visit

NCEHR will visit Trent on November 3rd. There is a presentation on the new "Tri-Council Policy Statement on Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans" in the A.J.M. Smith Conference Room, Bata Library at 1:30-2:30. A copy of the new policy is available at www.nserc.ca/news1. htm.

Northern Scientific Training Program (NSTP)

Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (DIAND) provides support for Canadian graduate and senior undergraduate students to conduct thesis-related fieldwork in the Canadian North and other circumpolar countries. Such Northern experience can be used to earn the "Emphasis in Northern and Polar Studies" which is open to students in any Trent undergraduate degree program (see p. 189 of the University Calendar). Application forms are available from the Office of Research & Graduate Studies. NSTP Deadline: Nov. 20th An information session will be held on Nov. 5th at 11:00-12:00 in ESB 205.
