Trent enjoys outstanding number of postgraduate scholarships for 2001/02

Trent University is proud to share news of an exceptional number of nserc and Ontario Graduate Scholarships this year. The following major scholarships have been received by Trent students to undertake postgraduate studies in 2001-02. Congratulations to the students and their departments.

2000-01 NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships

Six graduate students and five 4th-year honours students have been awarded new Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (nserc) scholarships for postgraduate study. Master's awards are for two years and are valued at $17,300 per year, doctoral fellowships are awarded for three years and valued at $19,100 per year. Graduate level award recipients are: David Beresford, Rashpal Dhillon (Ph.D. candidates, Watershed Ecosystems), Michael Butler, Deborah Jenkins, Yolanda MacKinnon ( M.Sc. candidates, Watershed Ecosystems), Christopher Warren (M.Sc. Candidate, Applications of Modelling) and Audrey Schell (M.A. candidate, Anthropology). The five award recipients to commence master's level studies are: Jane Heffernan (Mathematics), Laura Kenton (Psychology), Scott McCairns, Paul Smith (Biology) and Winifred Topic (Chemistry). In addition, Stephanie Monteith ( M.Sc. candidate, Watershed Ecosystems) is continuing at Trent in year 2 of her nserc pgs awards.

Two additional nserc Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships valued at $19,100 each were awarded to Ashvin Mohindra and Brent Wootton (Watershed Ecosystem Ph.D. candidates).

 

2000-01 Ontario Graduate Scholarships

The Ministry of Education and Training has announced results of the 2001-02 Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program. Twenty-seven awards valued at $15,000 per annum have been awarded to Trent students. Five awards were received for Ph.D. studies: Kevin Fitzmaurice, Dawn Maracle (Native Studies Ph.D.) Dana Reker (Application of Modelling M.Sc.), Daphne Taylor-Garcia (Canadian Studies/Native Studies M.A.) Cory Stockwell (Methodologies M.A.); ten awards were received for 2nd Year master's level studies: Lisa McParland and Audrey Schell (Anthropology M.A.), Todd Gouin (Applications of Modelling M.Sc.), Joeann Argue, Brendan Edwards and Michelle Simone (Canadian Studies and Native Studies M.A.), Rosa Barker and S. Brooke Cameron (Methodologies M.A.), Deborah Jenkins and Yolanda MacKinnon (Watershed Ecosystems, M.Sc.). Twelve awards were received for 1st Year master's level studies: Maud Asante-Nimako, Gabe Foreman, Pascale Manning (English) Freda Burdett, Laura Kenton (Psychology), Glenna Harris, (Geography), Emily Hutchison (History) Christopher Melchiorre, Christopher Smith, and Howard Grant (Cultural Studies), Paul Smith (Biology) and Winifred Topic (Chemisty).

The names of five additional Trent students appear on the ogs reversion list to be considered as awards are turned down by successful candidates.

Nine further Ontario Graduate Scholarships, tenable as Institutional awards for graduate study only at Trent University have also been distributed. These awards have been awarded to Barbara Bond (Applications of Modelling M.Sc.), Molly Blyth (Canadian Studies Ph.D.), Erin Stewart (Canadian Studies/ Native Studies M.A.), Marie-Joie Brady (Methodologies M.A.), Nicole Bell and Ross Hoffman (Native Studies Ph.D.), Karen Hunter (Watershed Ecosystems M.Sc.), Dominic Lariviere and Scott Reid (Watershed Ecosystems Ph.D.).
