Trent University and Fleming College celebrate launch of new collaborative Nursing Program

Trent University and Sir Sandford Fleming College celebrated with students, staff, officials, and the health care community over the launch of the new Trent/Fleming Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program launched this September.
Over 100 students are enrolled in the program, a partnership between the university and the college. Responding to a need for nurses locally, provincially, and nationally, the new program allows students to attain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the new minimum academic requirement for nursing registration and licensure with the College of Nurses of Ontario, effective January 1, 2005.
The Trent/Fleming Nursing program has been held up as one of the provinces' leading partnership models. Unique in every way, Trent/ Fleming Nursing allows students to attend both institutions throughout their four-year program. By exploring scientific theory and nursing practice simultaneously, Trent/ Fleming students will bring advanced knowledge and essential hands-on techniques to the health care field.
Dr. Lesley Lewis, Director of the Trent/Fleming Nursing Program has been impressed by the calibre of students showing interest in the program. "I'm delighted at the enthusiasm and motivation shown by students currently in the program," commented Lewis. "I know that the community will benefit from this highly qualified and motivated group of professionals."
Among those attending the event were students currently enrolled in the program, university and college nursing faculty, university and college administration, and representatives from a variety of health care agencies from a variety of the health care agencies across Northumberland, Victoria, and Peterborough Counties.
