Trent administrator receives national award

Tony van Hoeckel, a 21 year employee of Trent University, has been selected to receive the national Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (caubo). Tony serves as Trent University's Financial Advisor to the Vice President (Administration).

The Distinguished Service Award is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to caubo and the management of higher education over a long period of time. The award was presented to Tony at the annual caubo conference at Ryerson University.

Sally Young, Vice President of Administration at Trent, noted that Tony's contributions at the local and provincial level have been significant throughout his career.

"Tony was a key contributor to the on-going study by the Laurier School of Business and Economics examining universities' accountability disclosure practices," said Young. "Among all Canadian universities, the study's latest results confirmed that Trent University has moved its disclosure accountability ranking from 36th place to 7th in one year. This is a dramatic improvement and is due in large measure to Tony's willingness to share information, work with his peers and encourage the adoption of best practices in financial reporting."

Young encouraged everyone to join her in congratulating Tony on this significant achievement which has also enhanced the reputation of the university.
