Ottawa alumnus Gordon Watson represents spirit of Trent
Gordon Watson, who began his studies at Trent at age 58 after retiring from
the Public Service of Canada, and graduated with an MA in anthropology in
1981, has been awarded the 1998 Spirit of Trent Award. It is presented by
the Alumni Association to a deserving alumnus/a who had made a difference
though a contribution to the university, the alumni or the community. The
presentation was made at a dinner Nov. 21.
Mr. Watson spent 30 years amassing a collection of ancient Native
groundstone tools, pottery shards and arrowheads while documenting 8,000
year of Native history in Eastern Ontario. He recently donated his
collection of more than 20,000 artifacts from 38 sites to the Museum of
Civilization in Ottawa.
