Seeking Nominations

Margaret Laurence Lecture

The Margaret Laurence Lecture Committee invites nominations for the 1999 lecturer. This is an annual public lecture, funded by a combination of a generous private endowment and money from the Canadian Studies Directorate of the Secretary of State.

The lecture is intended to bring a distinguished speaker to Trent to address a topic related to women's involvement in peace, ecology, literature and/or feminism.

Letters of nominations, including any relevant information about the nominee that might be helpful to the committee, should be forwarded to Committee Chair, Joan Sangster (e-mail jsangster@trentu.ca) at Lady Eaton College by Dec. 10, 1998.

Distinguished Faculty Research Award

Nominations from faculty are invited for the 1998-99 Trent University Distinguished Faculty Research Award. The award is made annually to a member of faculty in recognition of outstanding achievement in research and scholarship.

All faculty are eligible (including Chairs and Directors). The award rotates among the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Faculty members from the Humanities are eligible this year. Past winners in the Humanities are:

1987-87 John Gilchrist History
1989-90 John Fekete English Literature/ Cultural Studies
1992-93 John Burbidge Philosophy
1995-96 Douglas McCalla History

Names should be submitted to Paul Healy, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, by Dec. 11, 1998. After receiving nominations, the appropriate chairs or their designates will be contacted to discuss the matter of supporting documentation.
