Learning to solve disputes
Dispute resolution is becoming a must-have skill in today's pressure packed
workplace, and it is one which will be taught to participants in an
intensive course at Trent University.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (or ADR) is a new and growing field
focusing on resolution of disputes through mediation. It is designed for
those who wish to practice as independent mediators or acquire dispute
resolution techniques and mediation skills to use in their current
employment situation. The course is being offered over two weekends, June
2-4 and 16-18, and provides intensive training in both the theory and
practice of adr.
ADR practitioners work in a variety of settings in both the public
and the private sector including government agencies, business, and the
court system.
Instructors Anne Grant and Judith Clarkson have extensive
experience in the design and delivery of dispute resolution courses and
seminars, and practice adr through their Toronto-based company, Mediated
Solutions Incorporated. Both have mediated extensively in such areas as
civil disputes, complaints at health care regulatory authorities, farm debt
mediation, and work place harassment.
