Eminent service awards to two

A recently-retired staff member and a retiring Board of Governors member will be recognized at Convocation with Eminent Service Awards. The award was established in 1978 and is presented on behalf of the Board of Governors, acting on the recommendation of Senate.

Strode began her Trent career in 1971 and held a variety of positions. Her nominator noted that during her time as Trent, she witnessed the steady expansion of graduate education and helped more than 300 Masters and Doctoral students through their programs to Convocation. She was actively involved in the Ontario University Registrar's Association, the American Association of University Registrars and Admissions Counsellors, the Society for Research Administrators, and the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies.

Strode's record of public service included leading the Trent drive for the United Way, past-president of the Trent University Staff Association and leadership in the Soroptimist Society. She's also been a volunteer for UNICEF, Multiple Sclerosis, the YWCA and Marycrest Home for the Aged.

Don Ferrier, a retiring member of Trent's Board of Governors, will receive an Eminent Service Award at the morning Convocation in recognition of his dedication and valuable contributions to the governance of the university.

Vice-President Marketing and Sales for the Quaker Oats Company of Canada Limited, where he has been employed since 1974, Ferrier attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in a Business Administration program.

Appointed to Trent's Board in 1992, he has served on various of its committees and was Chair of the Presidential Search Committee in 1997-98, and is currently Vice-Chair of the Board. His term of office ends this year.
