Student association chooses leaders

Third-year cultural studies and anthropology student Derrick McIntosh has been elected president of the Trent Central Student Association.

In voting held during early March, Leanne Thurston was named vice-president, student membership, Richard Eberhardt was elected vice-president, internal affairs, Mike Izzo won as vice-president, external affairs and Paul Kelly was chosen vice-president, finance.

Students elected Joe Stup as Native Issues Commissioner, Natalie Stephenson as Environmental Issues Commissioner, Sarai Nunez-Ceron, International Issues Commissioner and Marisa Barnhart, Women's Issues Commissioner.

Jordan Lyall was named to the Board of Governors.

Students were also asked to decide by referendum whether they supported three separate levies. They voted in favour of a refundable $1.50 levy to First Response, against a refundable $2.50 levy for Absynthe Magazine and in favour of a non-refundable $2.00 levy to Trent Child Care Centre.

Chief Electoral Officer Dan Nelson congratulated all candidates for a well-contested race. "All were fine candidates worthy of their offer of service to the membership."

He also offered a thank-you to the team of electoral officers, deputy returning officers and poll clerks "who worked so long and hard volunteering their energy and excitement to ensure a successful election."
