Chancellor Peter Gzowski takes the helm
Broadcaster and writer Peter Gzowski was installed into office as Trent's eighth chancellor on June 4 during afternoon Convocation ceremonies. He observed as previous chancellor, Ambassador Mary Simon, who retired from the position June 30, greeted each graduating student from the 1999 class of 1,057 students. Previous Trent chancellors are Leslie Frost, Eugene Forsey, William Morton, Margaret Laurence, John J. Robinette and Kenneth Hare. Gzowski, long-time cbc radio host of Morningside, now seen on the network's Gzowski in Conversation, began his public role as Trent's ambassador early Convocation day with a guest appearance on a local radio station. Set against a background of morning Convocation, he provided a three-minute filmed commentary on the value of a Trent education, which is now on Trent's Web site at www.trentu.ca/admin/comm/gzowski.mpg. The new chancellor has already scheduled several Trent dates and visits, including hosting a gala celebration to mark Trent's 35th anniversary (see story on Anniversary plans.) Gzowski has a Trent location in the Riverside Offices, Bata Library. Any correspondence for him should be directed in care of the Secretariat, Bata Library.
