Conolly appointed new head of TIP Leonard Conolly has accepted a one year appointment as Interim Director of the Trent International Program (tip). He replaces David Morrison who completes a five-year term at the end of this month. In making the appointment, Vice-President (Academic) Graham Taylor said, "I am very pleased that Dr. Conolly has agreed to take on this position for a year. He brings an enormous wealth of experience and a great interest in international activities and study abroad. He will be looking at ways to improve and expand on Trent's Year Abroad and exchange programs as well as maintaining our international recruitment initiative." Conolly is Chair of the World University Service (wus), an international, non-governmental organization committed to the universal and equitable right to education and development through learning. He was previously Chair of the Board of Directors of wus Canada. In addition to Trent, Conolly has taught at the Universities of Guelph, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Cambridge University. While at the University of Guelph, he took a leading role in expanding study-abroad opportunites for students. He has lectured throughout North America and in Britain, Australia, India, and Israel. A noted theatre historian, he is the author and editor of many books including the Encyclopedia of Post-Colonial Literatures in English, co-edited with Guelph colleague Eugene Benson. Conolly, who served as president of Trent University from 1993 to 1997 is currently a member of Trent's English faculty. His appointment to tip becomes effective July 1, 2001. |
