Trent alum receives province's most prestigious honour Trent alumna Joyce Fee of Peterborough was one of 25 Ontario residents named to the Order of Ontario at a ceremony in Toronto on Dec 12th. The honour, created in 1986, recognizes residents whose contributions have benefited Ontario communities and who have achieved the highest level of achievement in their field. Fee's work with developmentally handicapped children has been a life-long labour of love. She was cited as an educator who has "dedicated her life to making life better for vulnerable children and families. She has focused particularly on the needs of children with developmental disabilities." According to one of her nominators Fee demonstrated individual nobility and accomplishment throughout her life. Now retired from her position as principal with the Peterborough Board of Education, Fee continues to be active in the volunteer sector. She is president of the Peterborough branch of the Autism Society of Ontario and on the board of Community Care. Fee attended Trent as a part-time
student from 1968 to 1973, while teaching full time and raising
her five children. She graduated with a BA in English in 1973.
