President Patterson joins provincial advisory committee

Trent President Bonnie Patterson is one of six members of the Biotechnology Commercialization Centre Fund advisory committee, chaired by retired businessman and entrepreneur in the biotechnology industry George Masters of Burlington.

The Centre Fund was announced in November 1999 by Energy, Science and Technology Minister Jim Wilson. Masters and his committee will recommend investments by the $20-million Biotechnology Commercialization Centre Fund, which is designed to boost Ontario's competitiveness in the biotechnology industry.

"This fund is an important development for Ontario's biotechnology industry and underscores the province's commitment to this vital sector," Masters stated in a provincial news release.

The fund is to assist in the creation of regional commercialization centres to house start-up biotechnology firms from Ontario's universities, hospitals, research institutes and private industry.
