Book on residential schools
John Milloy of the Native Studies and History departments has written a critical account of the federal government's aboriginal residential school system. His book, "A National Crime, The Canadian Government and the Residential School System, 1879-1986," draws on previously unreleased government documents. Milloy's book is based on his research for the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, which helped lead to the Canadian Government's 1998 public apology for the harm done by the residential school system. Published by the University of Manitoba Press, it will be available mid-May.
