Want to be a teacher?

Representatives from four teacher education programs are coming to campus to talk about their programs and how to apply.

  • A rep from the Faculty of Education, Lakehead University will be in the Careers Centre, Suite 113, Blackburn Hall Sept. 25, 1-3 p.m.
  • John Bird, Faculty of Education, Brock University will be in Room 104, Blackburn Hall Sept. 30, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Joseph Syracuse, graduate admissions director, D'Youville College, Buffalo, N.Y. will be in the Bata Library foyer Oct. 16, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. D'Youville College offers teacher education programs to Canadian students.
  • A rep from the Faculty of Education, Queen's University will be in Champlain College private dining room Oct. 16, 4:30-6 p.m.
  • Iain Maclean from Northern College, Scotland will be in Champlain College Room C3 Oct. 29, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Northern College offers a one-year teacher training program to qualified Canadian students.

        Confirm locations with the Careers Centre 24 hours prior to the session at Suite 113, Blackburn Hall or telephone 748-1386.

A year in Nantes
Students interested in spending a year in France are invited to the Nantes information session Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in Lady Eaton College senior common room.

Staff training
The Human Resources Department offers training courses this year for Trent staff who want to upgrade their skills in communications and service, project management, health and well-being, computers and management. Courses begin in October. For a course list and registration forms, contact Human Resources at 748-1550 or call Shirlee Kowalchuk, assistant director of organization and staff development, at 748-1591.

Library workshops
Bata Library is offering workshops on how to use its electronic catalogue system TOPCAT, do Internet research and find articles. Schedules are posted in the library.

About student debt
A CIBC National Student Centre representative speaks about Defeating the Personal Debt Dragon: Loan Repayment, Credit Ratings, Bankruptcy Prevention and You, Oct. 9 in Lady Eaton College dining hall, 2:30-4 p.m.

        The speaker is sponsored by Trent's Central Student Association and financial aid office. For information, call 748-1000.

Trent Radio open house
Trent Radio will be hosting an open house for all members of Trent administration, faculty and staff Oct. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Trent Radio House, at the corner of George Street and Parkhill Road. RSVP by Oct. 9 by e-mail to trentradio@trentu.ca .

World Food Day on air
Tune in to Trent Radio 92.7 FM on Oct. 16 from noon to midnight for discussions and music marking World Food Day. To participate, contact the station at 748-1777 or by e-mail at trentradio@trentu.ca .

Alumna on sound art
Trent alumna Andra McCartney talks about Vancouver soundscape composer Hildegard Westerkamp Nov. 18 in an evening presentation hosted by Trent Radio. McCartney is completing her PhD at York University on the composer. For venue, contact Trent Radio at 748-1777.

Tables for sale
Champlain College dining hall tables are for sale for $35-$75.

        They will be sold on a first-come basis and for cash only. For information, call Marian O'Brien at 748-1254.

Oktoberfest invitation
The southwestern Ontario chapter of the Trent University Alumni Association invites alumni, faculty and students to celebrate Oktoberfest at Kitchener's Transylvania Club Oct. 17.

        The Trent University night begins at 6:30 p.m. in the club's Festhalle. Tickets are $10 and can be ordered by calling Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest headquarters at 519-570-4267.

Pick up assignments
Cultural Studies students can pick up last year's assignments from the program office until Oct. 17.
