NOTES
Traill wins again
Traill College won the Hope Cup for the second consecutive year for having the most walkers from a Trent group participate in this year's Walk for AIDS Sept. 28.
Thirty Traill College walkers turned out for the sixth annual fund-raising walk. Of the 264 walkers participating, 112 were from Trent. They raised more than $12,000 for AIDS education at Trent and the Peterborough AIDS Resource Network.
The Commoner won appetizers for 10 at the Peterborough Arms for donating the most money -- more than $500 -- the day of the walk.
New OPSEU executive
Pat Schillemore Martin continues as the president of Local 365, Ontario Public Service Employees Union at Trent for a two-year term following an election Sept. 24.
The local's membership also elected Joe Muldoon vice-president and Doug Brown as chief steward. Julie Crook was acclaimed as treasurer and John Wales, as secretary. They occupy these offices for two years to September 1999.
Doing the honors
The committee on university honors invites nominations for honorary degrees and Eminent Service Awards to be granted at future convocations. Those submitted by the end of October will be considered for 1998 convocation.
Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) and Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degrees recognize individuals who have contributed to academic life or to society as a whole. Eminent Service
Awards honor staff, faculty and friends of Trent who have made outstanding contributions to the life of the university and are usually about to retire.
Send nominations in confidence to Dianne Choate, University Secretariat, Bata Library. They should include biographical information and a brief rationale of why Trent should honor the individual(s). A list of candidates is kept for future consideration and suggestions are accepted throughout the year. For information, call 748-1410.
