Budget Overrun
Acting vice-president administration John Earnshaw told the Board of
Governers Oct. 31 that Trent faces immediate financial problems.
They have occurred since
the 1997-98 operating budget was set last
spring. He said they flow from enrolment shortfalls, unachieved savings,
additional expenses resulting from the turnover of senior administrators
and significant benefit cost increases, among other things.
Earnshaw did not present
solutions to the projected overrun. Further
discussions with the Senate budget committee and the board's audit and
finance committee will take place this month.
