Shades of tennis
Leslie Collins holds a buckthorn seedling like the ones she has cocooned under triple-stacked tennis ball tubes in the Trent greenhouse. Biology professor Roger Jones collected 120 tubes from the Quaker Park tennis club for Collins's honors thesis. She has painted the tubes black to various levels to measure the effects of shading on growth of European and glossy buckthorn.
