Board approves appointments, merit awards

The Board of Governors has approved the following appointments, leaves and sabbaticals, resignations and promotions, and merit awards.

      Konrad Kinzl will chair the Ancient History and Classics Department July 1, 1999 to June 30, 2000. George Nader is acting director of Administrative Studies Jan. 1 to June 30.

      Leaves and sabbaticals have been granted to: geography professor Fred Helleiner to continue work on a breeding bird atlas July 1, 1997-June 30, 1998 half time over a full year; environmental sciences professor Chris Metcalfe to do collaborative research with the Institute for Water Research and Water Technology in Germany and continue work on the Inter-American Networking for Studies and Training in Natural Resource Usage for Community Transformation (INSTRUCT) July 1, 1998-June 30, 1999.

      The board accepted environmental sciences and economics professor Brenda Leith's resignation effective Dec. 31, 1997.

      Psychology professor Deborah Kennett's promotion to full professor was approved as of July 1, 1997.
