New negotiating committee
After a review of best practices elsewhere, the Board of Governors recently
created a negotiations committee. It will set mandates for administration
to negotiate each collective agreement and recommend proposed collective
agreements to be ratified by the board.
Negotiations used to be the responsibility of the board's human
resources committee. Now membership on the human resources committee is
open to internal (Trent faculty, staff and students) board members.
The negotiations committee will be composed of the board chair, an
external board member, chairs of the board's audit and finance and human
resources committees, the president, and such administrators and
consultants the committee considers appropriate.
The new committee was recommended by the board's human resources
committee, which will advise the board on human resources policies and
practices, including collective agreement administration, health and
safety, human rights and employment equity.
