Former arts critic reads her novel

Former newspaper arts critic Carole Corbeil reads from her novels set in Toronto's theatre world, as part of Trent's Writers Reading Series Jan. 21.

The reading takes place in Traill College senior common room at 8 p.m.

Corbeil lived in Montreal until she was 17, went to England to study and settled in Toronto five years later. She freelanced as a book reviewer and was arts critic for eight years for The Globe and Mail. In 1986, she left to write fiction, publishing her first novel, Voice-over, six years later. She then spent two years as an arts critic for the Toronto Star. Stoddart published her second novel, In the Wings, this fall. Set in Toronto's theatre world, it has received Maclean's reviewer John Bemrose's praise as "a spellbinding depiction of the universal struggle to find and make use of what is most genuine in human experience."
