Food court big summer project

Major summer building projects such as converting Otonabee College dining hall into a food court will proceed this summer but others may be postponed.

Refitting Otonabee College dining hall and kitchen for a retail food court has to be completed by the end of August, said Physical Resources director Steve Dantzer. The estimated $500,000 project will be paid for mostly out of $850,000 Versa Campus Services has pledged for renovations as part of its new contract with Trent.

It is uncertain whether the ground-floor conversion of Bradburn House into apartments and window replacements and bathroom renovations at Lady Eaton College will proceed this summer. The two projects would cost about $360,000, half the 1998 budget allocated for college repairs and renovations, says Dantzer.

Other college-funded improvements will to go ahead: at Champlain - replacing windows, consolidating offices and renovating lecture hall; at Peter Robinson - renovating East Lodge, converting rooms to office space in Sadleir House.

Renovating Stratton House at Peter Robinson College for a student centre will proceed, paid for from the sale this summer of Trent's downtown properties, Jung and Kaye houses, says Dantzer.

Trent expects $215,000 for facilities renewal from the Ministry of Education and Training to reroof a leaky podium next to the Science Complex, and possibly to do other projects: office flooring at Otonabee College, Bata Library teaching and office space improvements, and creating a one-stop service in Blackburn Hall where students can get all their administrative needs met in one place.

Traill College parking lot will be paved using funds from Trent's parking budget.
