Local Experts to Teach Continuing Education Art Courses

Beginning in late March, Trent University's Continuing Education program will offer two art courses taught by local experts in their fields.

David Aurandt, Executive Director of the McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa has taught art history and art appreciation in a number of Canadian universities and colleges, including here at Trent in the Continuing Education program for a number of years. This term, Mr. Aurandt will teach a practical approach to the understanding of modern art in his six week course; Looking at Art II. Topics to be discussed will include ways of linking the paintings and sculptures that participants encounter in their personal experiences with the intentions of the artist. The course is being held in partnership with Princess Gardens and it will take place there (downtown Peterborough) on Thursday evenings, March 25 to April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.

For the art enthusiast who likes to be hands-on, E. Gary Blundell, a local professional painter for more than 20 years, will present an introduction to some of Canada's contemporary painters, their work, techniques, approaches and philosophies. The first day's discussions on these modern landscape painters will prepare the class for an entire second day of painting using some of these unusual and exciting new ideas and techniques. Canadian Contemporary Painters: Tools and Techniques will run two Saturdays, March 27 and April 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
