The
Courage to Transform
Our Olympic Journey - Personal excellence in a changing world
Olympic medallist Silken Laumann will address more than 1,000 Trent University
students, staff and faculty members at a September 22 University-wide
event. From 2 - 3 p.m. in the Athletic Complex at Trent, Ms. Laumann will
explore the topic "The Courage To Transform," focusing on
the excitement and challenges of the changes students will experience
throughout their university years.
During Ms. Laumann's presentation, she will focus on the role of
a positive attitude in the students' lives: accepting challenges,
striving to achieve, and having a long-term vision and a short-term plan.
She will discuss developing strategies to overcome adversity, strategies
to help reduce the social and emotional issues students face, and to support
their own balance and wellbeing.
Prior to the September 22 event, Ms. Laumann will visit Trent's
School of Education and Professional Learning, where she will speak to
more than 200 teacher candidates and faculty members on "The Power
of Play: Teachers as Catalysts for Change". Ms. Laumann will discuss
her vision for The Silken Laumann Active Kid's Movement, a national
charity that will involve parents, teachers and communities in promoting
healthy, active kids. This event will take place at Peter Gzowski College
at Argyle in the gym at 9 a.m.
