Leading Feminist Philosopher Linda Alcoff to Speak on "Metaphysics of Sex and Gender"
Prof. Alcoff to visit Trent University: April 1
Leading feminist philosopher Linda Alcoff will visit Catharine Parr Traill College's Langton House at 554 Reid Street on Thursday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss "Metaphysics of Sex and Gender." This visit is in place of the originally scheduled January 29 talk, which was cancelled due to poor weather conditions.
All are welcome to attend this talk. Admission is free of charge. A reception will follow in Traill College's Senior Common Room.
Prof. Alcoff's work focuses on continental philosophy, feminist theory, epistemology, and philosophy of race. Her visit is sponsored by Women's Studies, Theory, Culture and Politics, the Department of Philosophy and the Frost Centre for Canadian and Native Studies.
Prof. Alcoff is Professor of Philosophy and Women's Studies and the Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence at Syracuse University. She is also the author of two books, Real Knowing: New Versions of Coherence Epistemology, and Singing in the Fire Stories of Women in Philosophy. She has co-edited several other works including Latin American Perspectives: Ethics, Politics and Alternative Visions, Feminist Epistemologies and Race, Class, Gender and Nationality.
