March 3, 2004 - Future of Downloading Music on the Internet: Annual Tapscott-Lopes Business and Society Lecture
Tune in, turn on and download?
Cruising on the Information Toll Road in an MP3 Age
Was Aerosmith ahead of its time when they distributed the first full-length commercial song on-line in 1994? How is digital technology changing the way we use music, books and images? What ethical impact is downloading having on intellectual property and royalties? Can the music and publishing industries adapt to changing notions of customer loyalty? Will starving artists continue to struggle or is the new digital highway paving the way to a better world -- an MP3-driven nirvana?
Members of the public are invited to join us as international media and technology consultant Jim Griffin answers these and many more questions as part of the second annual Don Tapscott - Ana Lopes Business and Society lecture.
Jim Griffin is an international technology and music guru and CEO of Cherry Hill Digital. As an advisor and consultant to the music and entertainment delivery industries, Jim works to help his clients understand the uncertainty about the digital delivery of art. He is an internationally recognized author and worked at Geffen Records when it distributed the first full-length commercial song on the Internet.
"One of the brightest minds in digital music." - CNN Money (Eric Hellweg, January 23, 2003)
"Entertainment Technology Visionary" - Los Angeles Times (Paul Karon, April 8, 1996)
As co-founder of the 'Pho group,' Jim brings together thousands of members of Pho's mailing list to promote dialogue about the digital delivery of art and the new economy in music, movies, books and all media. He has lectured annually at business schools (Harvard, USC, UCLA, Berkeley) and has worked closely with Nokia's Wireless Research Centre in Helsinki.
