Students Ready to Present Trent Musical A group of 27 enthusiastic and dedicated Trent University students will take to the stage at the Wenjack Theatre on March 28, 29 and 30. After several months of rehearsing, they will bring the story of Anne of Green Gables to life through drama and song. The idea for the musical originated with fourth-year student Sandra Shaver. She is taking English 385 (Children’s Literature) with Professor Stephen Brown, and asked if she could produce a musical for her end-of-year course project. Prof. Brown agreed and the production soon began to take shape. "I’ve always wanted to do a musical," says Ms. Shaver. "I went to PEI when I was little, and to the Charlottetown Festival, and I’ve always wanted to play Anne." Ms. Shaver asked fellow fourth-year student Julie Bigl to direct the musical, and they both supervised auditions. Response from the student body was strong, and the 27 cast members selected were committed to mounting a first-class production. "I have huge faith in the cast. They’re doing a fabulous job," says Ms. Bigl. Practices began in mid-October and have been held every Thursday evening and all day on Saturdays. This rigorous schedule, on top of academic work and other involvements, has kept the actors on their toes. But Ms. Shaver feels it is all worth it: "I am having such fun with this," she says with a smile. Dress rehearsals will take place next week, and both Ms. Shaver and Ms. Bigl are spreading the word about performance dates. Tickets are available by calling (705) 875-9231, and cost $8 for adults and $5 for students with a student card. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. on March 28 and 29, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 30.
