New construction, renovation and relocation projects completed over the summer

While many students were away during the summer months, Trent University staff members were working hard to address the growing needs of the Trent community while completing a few projects in time for September.

The Physical Resources Department (PRD) has had their hands full with new construction, renovation and relocation projects, on top of routine maintenance of the Peterborough and Oshawa campuses:

PETERBOROUGH SYMONS CAMPUS

What’s New:

Completed construction over the summer has resulted in:

  • Block D of the Life & Health Sciences Building – an approximately 50,000 square foot addition to the DNA facilities with LEED designation. Showers on the main floor are accessible, to encourage biking to campus. The Biology department moved in to their new home in Block D during May and June. An official opening ceremony is planned for November as part of a national open house, profiling projects that received Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP) funding.
  • A new, accessible asphalt sidewalk now extends from the Wenjack parking lot to DNA Block D.
  • Go Transit has installed a new bus shelter at Gzowski College.

What’s Improved:

Renovations Include:

  • Otonabee College OC 211 now accommodates a new Disability Services Office exam room.
  • Otonabee College 134 converted one large 1600 square-foot classroom from 13 smaller rooms for the School of Education and Professional Learning. The new space is accessible and provides a Smartboard.
  • Science Complex SC 203, 208 and 215 labs have been converted to two 60-seat and one 30-seat seminar rooms with full AV/IT components.
  • DNA Building Block B 110 has been converted to two 40-seat seminar rooms with full AV/IT components.
  • Champlain College now houses new common rooms on the second and fourth floors and washrooms have been improved in A/B and E/F towers to provide more private facilities. Each washroom is complete with locking door, sink, toilet and shower.
  • A multi-faith room now exits in Lady Eaton College LEC 202.
  • Lady Eaton College installed a new south roof with flashing to solve previous problems with leaking.
  • The Dean's Office in Lady Eaton College LEC Suite 203 now accommodates three deans’ offices and a new meeting room.
  • Health Services in Blackburn Hall have been renovated to accommodate additional services.
  • Parking lots have been freshly paved at Blackburn Hall and Bata Library, including the bus drop-off area.

What’s Moved:

  • Marketing and Communications has moved from Blackburn Hall to Bata Library Suite 109.
  • The Disability Services Office has moved to Blackburn Hall Suite 132.
  • Risk Management and Housing switched places in Blackburn Hall, while renovations created additional space for the Office of Student Affairs.
  • The Environmental Sciences Building Rooms ESB 205 and ESB 209 are now allocated to the School of Education and Professional Learning. Biology labs previously occupying the space have moved to the new Block D of the DNA Building.
  • The Graduate Studies Office moved to Science Complex the second floor of the Science Complex.

OSHAWA THORNTON ROAD CAMPUS

  • A new road sign is currently being installed along Thornton Road South to identify the new campus location.
  • New way-finding signs have been installed on the 401 Highway when entering Oshawa, with signs directing drivers from exit ramps and along regional roads to the campus.
  • Electrical access for laptops has been added to the majority of classroom seating.

We would like to thank PRD for their continued work to make these transitions as seamless as possible!
