Trent Women's Varsity Rower to Represent Canada at World Rowing Championships
Sarah Rothwell named to Canada's U23 Women's Eight Team
Trent University’s Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce that third-year women’s varsity rower Sarah Rothwell will travel to Linz, Austria with the Canadian Under 23 Women’s Eight team to represent Team Canada at the 2013 World Rowing U23 Championships taking place from Wednesday, July 24, 2013 to Sunday, July 28, 2013.
When asked how she felt about going to Austria, Ms. Rothwell commented “It has taken a lot of hard work, time, and drive to get me to where I am today. I started off not knowing much about rowing and just wanting to take it as far as I can. Now, I feel like the possibilities are endless and through a lot more hard work and dedication I could really go places with rowing.”
The Listowel, Ontario native, who had never considered rowing until she arrived at Trent for her first year in the nursing program, is now entering her third year as a varsity athlete. Ms. Rothwell joined the novice rowing program and, following her first fall season, was invited to join the prestigious Row to Podium program at Trent, which identifies and trains future Olympic rowers.
“It is incredibly rewarding for me to have the opportunity to work with an athlete with such determination, grit and talent,” said Carol Love, talent identification and development coach with the Row to Podium program.
Jacqui Beattie, Trent’s varsity rowing head coach added: "Sarah is an exceptionally powerful athlete with a great attitude. Sarah will go far.”
