Bata Atrium
Have you been tracking the canoe build? The work is nearly done and you are invited to view the launch of this traditional birchbark canoe built by Alex Labelle, who has dedicated the past month to constructing it in the Bata Library Atrium. Over the past month Alex has connected with many in the Library and the Trent community, inviting us to watch his work, ask questions, and take part in the project by helping to trim roots, split cedar, and form ribs among other things.
This event will start in the Bata Atrium on November 18th, and run from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. It will begin with a naming ceremony, followed by the launch of the canoe on the west bank of the Otonabee. The canoe will then be paddled to the east bank and brought to the Gathering Space, where the First Peoples House of Learning will host a celebratory feast.
We sincerely hope you will join us.
