Trent University Saddened to Learn of the Passing of Professor Emeritus Roy T. Bowles.
Dr. Roy T. Bowles was a faculty member in the Department of Sociology for nearly 30 years
Dr. Roy T. Bowles, joined the department of Sociology at Trent University in 1968 and became full professor in 1979. During his 29-year career with Trent University, Professor Bowles taught many courses in both Sociology and Canadian Studies. From 1977 to 1980 and again from 1989 to 1992, he was chair of the department. Upon his retirement, he was presented with the title of professor emeritus at Trent.
His significant works include Social Impact Assessment in Small Communities and Child Abuse: Commission and Omission. His post-retirement work, Rural Communities and Elder People in Canada: A Photographic Essay on Diversity, highlights his continued contributions.
As part of Trent’s $50 million fundraising campaign, Unleash the Potential, Prof. Bowles and his wife Devona, established the Roy T. Bowles Sociology Research Prize, to support the research of a fourth-year honours student.
The University extends heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Roy T. Boyles and to all who knew him at Trent.
