Postgraduate Student Explores New Career Paths at Trent Durham
Adeniyi Akande is enjoying the student life experience at Trent Durham’s Advanced Learning Centre
Life isn’t a straight line. Sometimes, people discover new passions, interests, and life goals, which may lead to a career change.
Adeniyi Akande, who worked as a fund transfer officer in the banking sector previously, found that it wasn’t what he wanted to do long term. Trent University Durham GTA’s Business Communication and Human Resource Management dual postgraduate certificate program gave him the opportunity to learn different skills and to transition into a new field of work that he will pursue after graduation.
“I am having the best time of my life and I thank the wonderful lecturers and student association,” said Adeniyi.
As a postgraduate student at Trent University Durham, Adeniyi spends his time studying at the Advanced Learning Centre (ALC) in downtown Oshawa. The ALC is designed with students in mind and includes critical support services, including academic advisors, career supports, library staff, and Trent International team members.
He said, “Everybody seems to know each other and interact with one another. When you need any help, just talk to anyone.”
Adeniyi is an international student from Nigeria, so the strong presence of Trent International at the ALC helps him and his fellow students to be successful throughout their academic journey.
All the events at the ALC helped Adeniyi connect with others and find a community – and his academic journey has been just as successful as his goal to make new friends.
“This program has been invaluable in preparing me for my future career. The courses have not only instilled confidence in me but have opened several doors of opportunities for me to see,” Adeniyi said.
