Enriching Academic and Extracurricular Experiences with Real World Learning
International student Rahul Makhija credits paid co-op work terms for setting him up for success in career as business analyst
Rahul Makhija (Gzowski College) has aspirations to pursue a career as a business analyst.
To assist in reaching his goals, the third-year Computer Science student, who is specializing in Data Science and minoring in Business Administration, has chosen co-op to help him grow and stand out.
Rahul’s eight-month paid co-op working as an application specialist and business & data analyst with Peterborough Utilities Group served as a significant step in his career development, providing him an opportunity to refine and gain valuable technical and interpersonal skills outside of the classroom.
“One of the highlights of my work term with Peterborough Utilities was the opportunity to engage with various stakeholders and clients,” says Rahul. “Taking the time to listen and understand their needs, and learning how to provide tailored solutions is something I would not have experienced if it weren’t for the co-op stream.”
To further support his professional endeavours, Rahul, an international student from India, is also an active member of the Trent community. In addition to his role as president of the Trent Cricket Association, he is a Service Centre assistant in the Trent Housing Department, a teaching assistant, and a student marker for multiple mathematics and computer science courses.
“Trent has provided me with a solid launchpad for my career, offering numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth. I am immensely grateful for the support and opportunities Trent has provided, which have undoubtedly shaped my career ambitions and goals.”
This summer, Rahul will continue his experiential learning during his final work term as a business analyst intern with Travelers Canada in Toronto.
Applications for all Trent co-op streams for fall 2024 remain open. Apply today.
