Lady Eaton College Celebrates Student Achievement
Over 300 members of the college achieve average of 80% or above
Student academic achievement was spotlighted and celebrated at a special luncheon held in the Lady Eaton College (LEC) Pit on January 22, 2014.
Over 50 students and 10 college fellows were in attendance at the annual awards event hosted by academic advisor Dr. Christine Freeman-Roth, who provided words of welcome along with college principal Dr. Michael Eamon.
Last academic session, an impressive one quarter of all college member, over 300 students, obtained an average of 80 per cent or above and were named to the Dean’s Honour Roll. Other awards presented at the ceremony were the prestigious Dale Standen Prize for achievement in history, which is named after the former principal and history professor, and the LEC Senior Tutor’s Prize, founded in recognition of Professor Fiona Harris-Stoertz’s service as a former senior tutor of the college.
The newly endowed Flavelle Principals’ Prizes were also given out to students with the highest marks in both the arts and sciences. These awards are entirely funded by and endowments of the Sir Joseph Flavelle Foundation and the continuing generosity of the faculty and staff at Lady Eaton College. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a certificate of merit from the college to every student in attendance.
Remarking on the success of the event Professor Freeman-Roth observed, “I am thrilled to be able to honour the hard work of so many Lady Eaton College students. It was great to see so many staff, faculty and alumni of Lady Eaton College support these students.”
