Trent University Mourns the Passing of James Swanston
Trent supporter and governor emeritus of Trent University’s Board of Governors
The Trent community is saddened to learn of the passing of James (Jim) Swanston, governor emeritus with the Trent University Board of Governors, and a supporter of Trent through both his philanthropic efforts and his voluntarism.
During his nine years on the Board, Jim served as a member of the Executive Committee, the Human Resources Subcommittee, Nominating Committee, City-University Liaison Committee, and Compensation Subcommittee, and was particularly generous of his time to help the University with a number of special projects.
As noted in his obituary, Jim had a passion for history, politics, and service to his community. Jim “was a man who respected history and loved to preserve and share his memories. Service to the community was a passion of Jim's, and inspired by his father, he also developed a love of politics. He contributed on many local Boards, from the Peterborough Sales and Ad, to Civic Hospital, Trent University and the Peterborough Police Services Board. He volunteered as campaign manager on several political campaigns”.
The University extends heartfelt sympathies to Jim’s family and friends, and to all who knew him at Trent.
