Trent University Ontario’s #1 Undergraduate University 12 Years Running
2023 Maclean’s University Rankings also position Trent as national and provincial leader in scholarships, student awards and reputation
Trent University continues to hold the top spot as Ontario’s number one undergraduate university for the 12th consecutive year, and leads in several categories provincially and nationally, including overall reputation, most innovative and highest quality in the 2023 Maclean’s University Rankings.

In the overall national rankings, which compare 49 Canadian universities, Trent’s reputation as a leading undergraduate university continues to ascend the ranks, moving up to secure the #2 spot for reputation in all of Canada, and #1 in Ontario. The University is also the #2 undergraduate university in Ontario for innovation and for producing the leaders of tomorrow.
The Maclean’s rankings reinforce Trent’s leadership as an institution where students receive the support they need to pursue academic success, ranking as the top primarily undergraduate university in Ontario for scholarships and bursaries as well as student awards, and number two in student services. Further, the rankings bolster Trent’s reputation as a place for global experts, ranking as the top Ontario undergraduate university for faculty awards, and number two for medical/science grants in the same category.
Another feature in this year’s results spotlights Trent’s reputation for supporting and training the next generation of educators. The prestigious Trent School of Education received special recognition, named among the top 20 universities in all of Canada, across all categories – the only primarily undergraduate institution on the list.
